MAGPI Welcomes Delegation from National Universities Commission Nigeria

MAGPI is pleased to welcome several distinguished representatives from the National Universities Commission Nigeria on Friday June 24, 2011. The delegation from Nigeria have traveled to US to sign a historic Memorandum of Understanding with Internet2 which will enable broadband connectivity via their committment to create a Nigerian high speed research and education network. The delegation from Nigeria will execute the MoU with Internet2 in Washington, DC on Thursday June 23rd and then travel to Philadelphia for a visit to MAGPI and the University of Pennsylvania campus to explore collaboration opportunities moving forward. The delegation will have the opportunity to tour the MAGPI studios as well as Penn's Center for Human Modeling and Simulation and also meet with several administrators, academics and technologists at Penn including Robin Beck, Vice President, Information Systems and Computing; Michael Palladino, Associate Vice President, Networking & Telecommunications; Deke Kassabian, Senior Technology Director, Networking & Telecommunications; Dr. Ali Ali-Dinar, Center for African Studies; and Dr. Steven Fluharty, Vice Provost for Research. Discussion topics for the visit will include knowledge sharing on student and administrative systems, research funding, networking and advanced infrastrucutre and future collaboration opportunities betweeen Nigeria and the United States. Greg Palmer, Executive Director, MAGPI and Chair of the Internet2 Special Interest Group for the African Region will host the delegation which includes Professor Julius A. Okojie, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission of Nigeria; Dr. Aboki Samu, Office Manager of the National Universities Commission Office in Washington DC; Dr. Joshua A. Atah, Head of ICT Projects, National Universities Commission of Nigeria; Mr. Christopher Maiyaki, Deputy Director and Chief of Staff to the Executive Secretary.
