Through the generosity of the Thickman Family Charitable Foundation, MAGPI is excited to announce a brand-new professional development program for educators in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The three-year MAGPI FELLOWS PROGRAM will provide a series of experiences to foster the construction of learning communities, project development, awareness and understanding of advanced network applications among K12, higher education and museum/library/informal education educators and support their active participation in the regional, national and international advanced networking communities. ANNOUNCING - - Alex's Virtual Lemonade Stand 2008!
Kids helping Kids Make a Difference! In celebration of Global Youth Services Day, join other schools across the country as they host lemonade stands to raise money for pediatric cancer research and participate in other related projects. Schools will collaborate with each other through a blog, a special "kick off" videoconference spirit rally and closing project collage videoconference event.
Now in it's third year, we're pleased to announce the ALEX'S VIRTUAL LEMONADE STAND will take place from April 8 - April 24, 2008.
Interested in working with us 'behind the scenes?' We're currently looking for educators that want to help coordinate the poster contest, poetry contest, and song showcase. Alcohol and the Developing Brain: How can we protect our elementary school students?

Almost 20% of our nation's youth will have had their first full drink of alcohol before they complete 6th grade. Early alcohol use can have devastating effects on learning and academic performance, as well as increase chances of later alcohol addiction four-fold. This interactive presentation will help elementary teachers and administrators understand how they can use information about the developing brain to help young children make healthy and safe choices. Actual demonstrations of lesson plans featuring local elementary students will enliven this informative and practical presentation. Protecting You/Protecting Me, an evidence-based curriculum developed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and published by Hazelden, will be featured as an example of brain-based prevention in action! Bullying 101: Creating a Respectful School

According to research conducted by the National Education Association, 160,000 children stay home from school each day to avoid bullying. Elementary and middle-school administrators, counselors and teachers who are concerned about the effects of bullying on children will benefit from this informative and interactive presentation. Participants will learn the 10 characteristics of an effective bullying prevention program, watch the "bullying prevention circle" in action, and hear administrators, parents, and teachers talk about bullying and what can be done to prevent it. This program will feature the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, an evidence-based school climate-change program developed at Clemson University with Dr. Dan Olweus, pre-eminent bullying researcher from Norway.
