Global Warming Research Challenge Videoconference

Times: 10:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. EDT

Objective: This videoconference will introduce students to the scientific concepts related to global warming, the Future Earth Institute and their challenge as student researchers.

Pre-Videoconference Preparation:

  • Familiarize students. Students should be introduced to the concept of the project and understand that they will be conducting real research and producing educational materials.
  • Prepare Introduction. Schools should prepare 30 second introductions to present as part of the videoconference event. Introductions should include:
    • The name of your school
    • Where you are located
    • Class information (i.e. “This is Mrs. Smith’s 3 rd Grade Class)
    • One interesting fact about your school/community
    • Why you are participating in this project

Videoconference Agenda:

  • Welcome/Introductions (8 minutes)
    • Each school will have 30 seconds to introduce themselves.
    • Introductions should include:
      • The name of your school
      • Where you are located
      • Class information (i.e. “This is Mrs. Smith’s 3 rd Grade Class)
      • One interesting fact about your school/community
      • Why you are participating in this project
  • Overview of Global Warming/Climate Change (15 minutes)
  • Discussion/Question & Answers (10 minutes)
  • Global Warming Challenge and Scope of Project (10 minutes)
