MAGPIs mission is to deliver regional infrastructure in a cost-effective manner and promote applications for the region’s research and education communities through high performance network technology.

MAGPI is a regional optical network that provides access to robust advanced network infrastructure and Next Generation network services for institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware that are focused on research, education, and healthcare. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania it is an integral part of the central IT organization, Information Systems and Computing, at the University of Pennsylvania. MAGPI has been assisting its member institutions since 1998 and is managed and operated by the staff of ISC’s Technical Services Organization.

Under the supervision of James Choate, CTO for ISC, and managed by Peter Heverin, Director, MAGPI has operated as a non-profit organization with the primary focus of enabling research and education applications across a broad spectrum of institutional types. Virtually every field of study from online learning and videoconferencing to supporting the Large Hadron Collider and Bioinformatics has benefitted from MAGPI’s state of the art infrastructure and staff expertise.
